nauseum are back

over the last day or so i worked on a logo design for Brisbane prog-rockers Nauseum who played a come-back show at the Step-Inn recently. amazing set.


i designed Nauseum's logo back when they were starting out which was a very rewarding learning curve and experience. their new sound is hard to define, but i tried. these are the recent designs i had going,




as proud as i was with this logo, it just didn't suit what they are going for with their new direction. i'll definitely return to this style in the future when it is more appropriate, but for now it's time to simplify and rework.

cute toad

probably the cutest cane toad i've ever seen. squatting upright, peering into my house with his big beady eyes and his little feet perched on the screen. how can you put to waste a toad as adorable as this?

rhys day identity

graphic logo/identity for Rhys Day, a very talented Brisbane based cinematographer/director. this is all still a work in progress, i'll have the banner completed for his website/myspace soon. been really happy to work with him and help him out.

semi-permanent book 2

last night i learned i'd been lucky enough to be included in the second semi-permanent book for 2009. some absolutely amazing pieces in the book so i'm very grateful to have had a look in, thank you semi-permanent!

2nd semester defeated!

so i've successfully finished my first year of uni. celebrated by the pool with drinks a plenty this afternoon. really looking forward to these holidays, i've got a lot of films on my 'to watch' list and a few books to get through.

as far as music goes the latest album by converge, 'axe to fall' has been constantly on repeat lately, as well as the black dahlia murder's new one 'deflorate'.

new gig poster

a poster i designed for an upcoming gig put together by prophecy entertainment. felt great to use some of my own photography on the poster and try and reduce all the colour down to the stark tones you see here.

tee design for my friends indoor soccer team 'hxc' is finally done. a lot of reworking but i'm really happy with the final result.

avalon

spent a week at maroochydore, only returned today. had heaps of fun, especially with my new kayak. however, my car broke down twice getting there and had to be towed, ended up taking my over 5 hours to reach the sunshine coast! also did a lot of drawing and reading and photographing so as soon as this uni work is over with there will be heaps more stuff done and uploaded.

a little explanation of the piece above. it's called 'avalon' which is a common beach shack name i've noticed. this little shack sits opposite the river with beautiful views. unfortunately separating it from the river is a main road which is constantly busy. i took heaps of long exposure photos most afternoons, but i was lucky enough to snap a clean shot of the shack when the road cleared momentarily.

when i finally get a break from uni work i'm going to hunt down a lens for my little pentax p30 given to me by my uncle. (the camera is over 20 years old) it shoots 35mm film which is good for me because i don't have much money.

pixies in brisbane

pixies are coming to Australia for the second time ever on their international 'doolittle tour'. they'll be playing the brissy convention center on the 18th of march, 2010. pretty excited!

case of the rabies

some of my mates from high school have got together and made an indoor soccer team and joined a competition. they needed some matching shirts, so not being the sporting type i thought this would be a good way to contribute. the team name is 'HXC' and this is the wolf graphic for the shirt. it's a w.i.p as i'm yet to incorporate the text and complete the design but i thought this guys snarl could stop traffic.

sandon disposable photos

nadia bought two cheap disposable cameras to bring on our recent camping adventure to sandon. she took all the photos and did an amazing job, she really captured the happy vibe :)

fighting for lacey 2nd attempt

wasn't happy with a lot of things about the previous design. i've stuck with the same colours but improved the composition and drawn some hands with a bit more character. think this one will stick!
